Kennington Parish Council would like to provide residents with an update regarding discussions about the potential inclusion of Bagley Wood Road within Oxfordshire County Council’s Quiet Lane initiative.
Over recent months, the Parish Council has undertaken a preliminary consultation survey with residents and has met with the Oxfordshire County Council officer responsible for the Quiet Lane’s programme.
Following these discussions, the Parish Council has requested that Bagley Wood Road be considered as part of the wider county trial.
At this stage, it is important to emphasise that no formal proposal has been agreed and no changes have been approved for implementation. Any future scheme would be subject to Oxfordshire County Council’s
formal consultation and decision-making processes, providing residents and stakeholders with an opportunity to express their views before any decisions are taken.
The Parish Council’s interest in exploring potential options arises from long-standing concerns regarding traffic levels along the narrow, largely single-track section of Bagley Wood Road (see area shown on map below). Many residents have highlighted the difficulties faced by pedestrians, including children, who often have limited safe space when encountering vehicles along this stretch of road.
The Council recognises that Bagley Wood Road serves a variety of users and that there are differing views on how best to address these concerns. We are not proposing to ban all vehicles from using this route. Our objective is to work towards a proportionate solution that improves safety while ensuring residents retain appropriate access to their homes and properties.
We have been pleased to receive a significant level of engagement through our preliminary consultation. While views on specific solutions vary, the overwhelming majority of responses indicated support for investigating the issues and considering potential measures to improve
safety and reduce conflict between road users.
The Parish Council is also aware of residents’ concerns regarding rat-running and the impact of traffic on surrounding roads. As part of this the Parish Council will be asking for traffic survey’s to be carried out in the village to monitor the impact. We continue to raise these concerns with Oxfordshire County Council and are seeking solutions that address the wider traffic challenges facing our community.
Should Oxfordshire County Council decide to progress the Bagley Wood Road proposal further, we strongly encourage all residents and stakeholders to participate in any formal consultation process. Constructive engagement from the community will help ensure that all viewpoints are considered and that any future decisions are informed by local knowledge and experience.
