Churches

There are two active Christian churches in Kennington.

Church of England
St Swithun's ChurchSt Swithun’s is the Church of England parish church, situated next to the original parish church (now the Church Hall) on Kennington Road.

Church services are held each Sunday and Thursday. Social and fundraising events are arranged throughout the year. The church strives to assist the local community and within the voluntarily controlled day school, St Swithun’s C of E (Controlled) Primary School.

Methodist
Kennington Methodist ChurchThe Methodist Church is on Upper Road, adjacent to Edith Court. You will find a lot of the members involved in various community groups and committed to Churches Together activities where there is the opportunity to pray and worship together and learn about our own faith and the faith of others.  If you would like to know more please contact Doreen Biggadike.  Her email address is

Churches together

Walk of witness passing Kennington Village Centre

Ecumenically there is a Churches Liaison Committee with representatives from the two village churches.  United Services take place during the year from time to time, including a Good Friday Witness Walk and Service.

Services of Praise are held in the local residential homes (Mon Choisy and Kirlena) 4 times a year led by members from the two churches.
