There are three active Christian churches in Kennington.
Church of England
St Swithun’s is the Church of England parish church, situated next to the original parish church (now the Church Hall) on Kennington Road.
Church services are held each Sunday and Thursday. Social and fundraising events are arranged throughout the year. The church strives to assist the local community and within the voluntarily controlled day school, St Swithun’s C of E (Controlled) Primary School.
The Good Shepherd Roman Catholic church is to be found at the War Memorial end of Bagley Wood Road.
Our Church in Kennington is part of the Hinksey Catholic Parish. Masses are held here on Christmas Day and Easter Sunday and a weekly Mass on Monday evenings at 7.30 pm.
The Methodist Church is on Upper Road, adjacent to Edith Court. You will find a lot of our members involved in various community groups and committed to Churches Together activities where we have the opportunity to pray and worship together and learn about our own faith and the faith of others.
The village has a Church Liaison Committee (Churches Together) movement in which all three of the churches participate.
Church Liaison Committee services or events are held most months except August. Events culminate at Christmas in a well-supported Church Liaison Committee carol service in the village hall.
There are also special Church Liaison Committee acts of worship at Easter including a Good Friday walk of witness through the village during which a replica cross is carried by various members of the three churches, with hymns, readings, prayers, thoughts and reflections on the Easter message.
In addition all three churches jointly support the Gatehouse project in Oxford and collect items for the homeless.
