Village Centre

Kennington has a large village hall which serves the people of Kennington. We originally opened in the 1940s in a cow barn but now we are housed in a new modern building built in 1988. The trustees of the village hall are the Kennington Village Hall Management Committee who oversee the everyday running of the hall.

Please see the website for further information, or contact Sandra Hogen, Hall Manager (07843 743718 or email )

Facilities

The main hall is 50 foot by 34 foot and we have seating for 150 for receptions and conferences. There is a county standard badminton court marked out. There is also a stage with full curtains. We have seating for 200 for stage productions. Our kitchen is well equipped with a dishwasher, fridge-freezer, catering size oven, kettle, saucepans, hot water urn and china and cutlery for 150 persons. We hold performing rights, public entertainment and theatre licences. Our hall is used regularly for badminton, exercise and pilates classes, baby & toddler group, drama group and regular meetings by the Parish Council. Our casual bookings include birthday parties, coffee mornings, jumble sales, ballet and dance shows and choir practice.

Hire charges

We have three different rates of charges:

  1. Standard rates – our standard hire fees.
  2. Village users – Kennington residents receive a discounted rate.
  3. Village organisations – receive an additional discount.
Our charges are per the hour and range from £12 to £30 for the main hall. The committee rooms range from £6 to £10.

The Management Committee

The management committee is made up of representatives of local village organisations who appoint one member to represent them for one year (April 1st through to March 31st the following year). At the 2006 AGM, our constitution was amended (with the approval of the Charity Commission) to increase the number of places open to members of the public from 2 to 4. There are 9 voting members on the committee.
