Notice of Casual Vacancy

Public notice is hereby given that, due to the resignation of Councillor Colin Smith a vacancy exists in the office of Parish Councillor for Kennington Parish Council.

The vacancy will be filled by election if, within fourteen working days of the date of this notice, any ten local government electors for the said parish submit a written request to the Returning Officer, Vale of White Horse District Council, Abbey House, Abingdon, OX14 3JE.

In computing these fourteen days mentioned above you disregard a Saturday or Sunday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Good Friday or a bank holiday or a day appointed for Public Thanksgiving or Mourning.

If no such request if made the vacancy will be filled by co-option by the Parish Council.

Date of notice: 13th January 2026

If you are: Aged 18 years or over, on the electoral roll, citizen of UK; Commonwealth; EU or Ireland and resident in or within three miles of Kennington or own land or work in the parish (for at least 12 months) you are eligible to be co-opted.

If you are: Able to attend regular evening meetings and interested in local issues, preferably not just a single issue

And have: an understanding and willingness to represent the views of the whole community and an interest in being an effective councillor

Please not the post of parish councillor is voluntary, with only expenses paid when necessary.
