Elections and Casual Vacancies

Election Year for Parish Council: Have you thought of becoming a Parish Councillor?

As a councillor representing your community, you will help keep it a great place to live and work. You will be supported in your role and will be expected to undertake training. You should be comfortable working electronically. You should have a positive outlook and a can-do attitude and be willing to work as part of a team. The parish council is seeking councillors from a variety of backgrounds – no special skills are required, but commitment and enthusiasm are essential.

If you are

  • able to attend regular evening meetings;
  • interested in local issues, preferably not just a single issue;

And have:

  • an understanding and willingness to represent the views of the whole community;
  • an interest in being an effective councillor;

you could be just what the Parish Council is looking for.

The post of Parish Councillor is voluntary, with expenses paid when necessary.

I’d like to put my name forward. What do I need to do?

You need to complete nomination papers and return them by hand to the Vale of White Horse offices in Milton Park by 4.00 pm on Wednesday 3 April. You will need 2 neighbours who are on the electoral register for Kennington to formally propose and second you.

Nomination papers can be downloaded from the Electoral Commission’s website here. Alternatively, paper copies are available in the library or from the clerk.

Why don’t you come along to the next meeting to find out more?

Alternatively, you can contact the clerk on 01865 421126 or at clerk@kennington-pc.gov.uk.
