This road part of the Kennington Park Estate was named in the Sixties as it leads to the main Kennington Playing Field which was established after the war and extended from five to seven acres following a further gift of land in 1956 from the developers.
Perhaps the most notable person ever to play at the Village’s major sports ground is Arthur Milton, the last man to play both football and cricket for England. Although it should be noted ex-Liverpool football international, one time Oxford United Manager and now famous TV pundit Mark Lawrenson did once play there.
