After the festive break, term began with some space themed activities. While Tim Peake enjoys life on the International Space Station, we are working on our Go For It: Space activity pack. The Guides had to organise a variety of sessions themselves using the pack. We have planned how we would communicate with aliens, made a human solar system model, designed zero gravity exercises to keep the astronauts healthy, made edible comets, staged comet crashes with flour and marbles and created space art.
We have also enjoyed a trip to Knight Fever!, the KADS pantomime and were especially excited as some of our members were in the cast. We held a Harry Potter book night event: mixing potions, casting spells and drinking butterbeer.
World Thinking Day is 22nd February and Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the globe mark the birthday of Guiding’s founder. To celebrate, we held an Indian-themed evening. We made elephant models, tried some yoga and relaxation techniques and tasted masala tea, lassi, poppadoms and roasted gram.
Guides is for all girls aged 10-14. If you’d like to join in the fun, please visit our website: www.kenningtonguides.org.uk
