I am writing to update you on some planned site investigations as part of the A423 Kennington improvement works and the associated traffic diversion you can expect. Kennington rail bridge is in poor condition and needs to be replaced. To help us finalise the designs and get ready for reconstruction we need to dig trial holes to investigate the condition of the ground and locate any utility cables that may be beneath the surface. The next set of trial holes will be dug over about three weeks starting on Monday 23 October. For two weeks from Monday 23 October to Friday 3 November trial holes will be dug adjacent to the A423 Southern Bypass between the Hinksey Hill A34 interchange and Old Abingdon Road next to the Redbridge Hollow site. Work will take place during the day, from 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. There will be no impact on the carriageway. A footway diversion will be in place and cyclists will need to dismount temporarily to safely follow a path diversion. For one week from Tuesday 7 November to Friday 10 November trial holes will then be dug on the Old Abingdon Road on/off slip road and will require road closures. Work will take place over night, from 10pm to 5am. Old Abingdon Road slip road and lane one of the A423 eastbound between Hinksey Hill and Kennington roundabout will both be closed, and the diversion route will be via the A4144 Abingdon Road and will be signed appropriately during the road closures. Works on detailed design will continue through to the end of this year when we expect to hear the outcome of the planning application for the improvements.
