Following yesterday’s announcement (dated 30 Jan 2025) from the Chancellor, which includes support for Thames Water’s proposed new reservoir near Abingdon, the Leader of the Vale of White Horse District Council has pledged to do everything she can to represent the views of residents and businesses across the district.
Plans for the reservoir near Abingdon have proved controversial in the area, with some residents worried about the safety and environmental impact of the proposals, as well as concerns about the potential for increased flood risk in local watercourses.
Cllr Bethia Thomas, Leader of Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “I have continually urged water providers to consider all the alternative solutions more seriously before committing to this reservoir. I reiterate that call but given the announcement from the government today that includes the reservoir in its list of water infrastructure plans, I would also like to reassure Vale residents that your district council will do everything we can to represent your views.”
