CONSULTATION – Kennington & Radley proposed Highway Improvement Measures

We are writing to seek your views on the proposal to introduce various highway improvement measures in Kennington & Radley in support of the ‘A34 Lodge Hill Interchange’ improvement scheme. These proposals have been put forward following consultation with Parish Councils and local stakeholders in 2022/23, as a result of which, numerous issues within the surrounding parishes were identified. Initial feasibility studies on the improvements supported by local stakeholder’s and parish councils were completed in 2023, and as a result the following measures are being proposed:

  1. Amend existing speed limits:
    1. extend the existing 30mph speed limit on Sugworth Lane in Radley, westwards by an additional 170 metres, replacing the existing 60mph National speed limit in the process
    2. introduce a new 40mph speed limit on Bagley Wood Road in Kennington – replacing the existing 60mph National speed limit from its junction with Oxford Road eastwards to the existing 20mph speed limit, a point 218 metres southwest of its junction with St Swithuns Road.
  2. Introduce new ‘No Waiting Monday to Friday, 8.30am-9.30am & 3pm-4pm’ (single yellow lines) parking restrictions – on The Avenue (both sides) in Kennington, from the existing ‘No Waiting at Any Time’ (double yellow lines) restrictions south of its junction with Poplar Grove, southwards to its junction with Simpson Way, a distance of approx. 380 metres.
  3. Construct a new Zebra Crossing (a crossing for use by pedestrians only) – on St Swithuns Road in Kennington, approx. 15 metres west of its junction with The Avenue.
