In January we were treated to a real tour de force from Prof Geoffrey Tyack. It was entitled “Buildings of Berkshire”, but in practice concentrated on the area that is now the Vale of White Horse. It covered everything from the Neolithic to the present day, and showed how styles evolved and changed over the period and was illustrated with many well chosen slides. It was very well received.
By the time you read this we will have enjoyed our members evening (15 February) when we expect to be treated to talks by Roger Gelder (castles of Wales) and Gerry Bowen-Thomas (Taffy comes to Oxford). We will also be deciding on where our annual outing is to go with the choice being either Bath or Coventry.
On the 21st of March we have a talk by Stephen Barker on the Oxon and Bucks Light Infantry on the Somme in 1916. This will be on the 100th anniversary of the fighting and should be most interesting. As usual it will be in the Methodist Church off Upper Road at 19.45 pm.
