History Society Report – September 2013

Sulgrave3The History Society’s first meeting following the customary Summer Break was a delightful illustrated talk by Cymon Snow, the General Manager of Sulgrave Manor (who replaced the published speaker, Thea Young who has now left Sulgrave) entitled ‘Cousins in War’ subtitled The Priest, The Farmer and The Soldier. Once again members enjoyed an outstanding evening with Cymon recounting the incredible story of three Washington  Cousins from around the time of the English Civil War ending with the youngest establishing the family in America  resulting in George Washington becoming the first President of the United States.

100_2105Later in September the Society members and friends are to make their visit to Portsmouth and its Historic Dockyard. A report of the trip will feature in next month’s Report.
