Defibrillators
The council feels that it is important as many people as possible are aware of the public access defibrillators and how to use them in an emergency. There are four defibrillators located in Kennington: at Playfield Road (outside the launderette), on Meadow View Road (off Poplar Grove), outside the Village Centre and outside Kirlena House (on Kennington Road). If you need to use one of these units:
- First, dial 999
- Give the operator the postcode which is clearly marked on the box
- They will give you an access code and dispatch an ambulance
- The defibrillator machine will talk you through the next steps
If you would like to attend a workshop to find out more, please give me a call or email me.
Gutters and Kerbs
Some of the gutters in the village have weeds growing out of them, and the council has asked if residents could clear those outside their homes. Vale of White Horse District Council will continue to clean the streets on a rotation basis.
There is a growing problem with vehicles parking on the pavements and damaging the grass verges – this seems to have got worse due to the winter weather. It is dangerous to pedestrians if the footpath is blocked. If you witness a vehicle obstructing the footpath, please report this to the police on 101 so the incidents can be logged.
To report physical problems to Oxfordshire County Council’s Highways Team, such as potholes and broken street lights, the easiest way is to use Fix My Street (fixmystreet.oxfordshire.gov.uk). Alternatively, you can call them on 0345 310 1111.
Snow Warden Scheme
In light of the recent snowy weather, the council is investigating the possibility of starting a snow warden scheme in preparation for next winter. We are seeking volunteers who will be given equipment, materials and training to ensure their safety whilst either clearing snow or gritting the footpaths. Similar schemes are run successfully around the country and particularly benefit vulnerable residents who cannot help themselves. Please call or email me if you are interested.
Annual Parish Meeting Finally, the Council hopes to see you at this year’s Annual Parish meeting on Wednesday 25 April at 7:30pm
