Parish News – December 2014

Kennington logoThe Parish Council is very pleased to report that Father Christmas raised £150, at December’s Carols around the Tree, which the Chairman handed to Kennington Health Centre towards the rocking horse restoration fund.

Christmas tree recycling has been arranged as in previous years, with both Forest Side and Playfield Road playing fields car parks being the areas where you can take your old Christmas trees. Please make sure they are there for collection by Wednesday 14 January 2015.

paviliionThe Parish Council has set up a Committee together with the Kennington Playing Fields Committee and the Football Club, to investigate the possibility of an extension and refurbishment of the pavilion at Playfield Road playing field. The building is in need of some TLC and with better facilities it is hoped that more residents of the village, both young and old, will use and enjoy both the open space and a smarter pavilion.

In next month’s edition the Council will be asking for your thoughts and ideas regarding the Playfield Road pavilion.

The Parish Council is pleased with the works at the north end of Kennington, where Oxfordshire County Council has extended the 30mph speed restriction to beyond the bypass bridge. It is hoped that the dragons’ teeth and 30mph roundel will help reduce the speed of traffic before vehicles reach the village.

The Parish Council would like to pass on its thanks to the Saïd Business School for working with the Parish Council and in both organising the works and sharing the costs, as this safety work benefits both the village and the school.

The Council would also like to thank the Highways Department of Oxfordshire County Council for its help, advice and making it happen.

The Parish Council is considering re-siting the Welcome to Kennington signs.
