The Councillors hope you can join them on Sunday 1 December at 6pm for Carols around the Tree at the War Memorial and afterwards in St Swithun’s Church for hot mince pies, sausage rolls and mulled wine. There will also be a non-alcoholic fruit punch.
Primary School Applications
If you have a child born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016 (inclusive), applications for their primary school place can now be made. The closing date for ‘on time’ applications is 15 January 2020 – parents/ carers must apply by this date online at www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/admissions or on paper (forms available from the County Council or a local school). Places will be offered on 16 April 2020.
Grants
At its November meeting, the Council gave an £800 donation to The Royal British Legion’s 2019 Poppy Appeal. It also agreed a grant of £500 to Kennington Youth Club towards some new equipment. A donation of £600 was awarded to Oxfordshire South and Vale Citizens Advice, and £50 has been given to ABandofBrothers towards their work with vulnerable young men.
Christmas Trees
If you have a real tree this Christmas and you’re a garden waste customer, Biffa will collect it – just leave it by your brown bin (but please not in it, as it’s tricky for the crews to get it out). If you’re not a garden waste customer, Christmas tree recycling has been arranged at Forest Side playing field car park and Playfield Road car park – the collection date will be publicised as soon as it has been received from the district council.
Dog Glove Dispensers
The parish council has installed three new dog glove dispensers, in addition to the ones at the playing fields, in an attempt to tackle the ongoing problem of dog fouling. Please remember that these are for emergencies only – if you notice that one is running low, please let the clerk know.
Fly Tipping
There has been a persistent problem of fly tipping recently, particularly at Forest Side playing field. The parish council asks residents to keep vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to the clerk or to the Envirocrime Team at Vale of White Horse District Council (tel. 03000 610 610). The cost to remove this waste is significant, and this money could be better spent elsewhere in the village.
On behalf of the Parish Council, may I wish everyone a happy and healthy Christmas and a peaceful new year.
