The Parish Council considered two grant requests at its November meeting: Oxfordshire Association for the Blind (OAB) was awarded £150 Oxfordshire South and Vale Citizens Advice Bureau £425.
Oxfordshire Association for the Blind’s small staff team and many volunteers provide a range of services for local blind and partially sighted people, including telephone counselling service and advice with equipment and visual aids. OAB’s new resource centre, The Campoli Centre along the Abingdon Road, means that the local visually impaired people will be able to benefit from a range of new services including computer courses and kitchen skills.
Oxfordshire South and Vale Citizens Advice Bureau, provides free, confidential and independent advice for all members of the local community. It provides drop-in, telephone and appointment services from its premises on High Street Abingdon. The major enquiry areas remain consistent over time with the most numerous being: welfare benefits; debt; employment; housing and relationships. It takes 12 months to become a Citizens Advice Adviser.
On behalf of the Parish Council may I wish everyone a healthy and happy Christmas and a peaceful new year.
